Monash Health has a long history of engaging volunteer services dating back to the 1850s. Every day across Monash Health, volunteers play a vital role in supporting staff, visitors, patients, families, and carers during what can be the most challenging of circumstances. Whilst traditionally volunteering has been conceived of in terms of workforce support, a way to ‘give back’ or a means of providing career experience, more recently volunteers in healthcare have been viewed as having a significant role to play in improving patient and staff experience.
As such, Monash Health volunteers are considered integral in supporting a strategic approach to improving patient care and experience outcomes. Volunteers are valued as an important part of the Monash Health team and we trust, that whatever your reason for volunteering, your volunteering experience at Monash Health will be both rewarding and enjoyable.
Volunteer opportunities exist across Monash Health Hospitals and Community sites, with a focus on activities that supplement the care and treatment of patients and support patients, visitors, and staff.

Unfortunately, the Monash Health Volunteer Services is not able to offer short-term volunteering for organisations. Organisations interested in such activity should contact the Monash Health Foundation on email@example.com
Similarly, volunteer services is unable to assist with work-experience or a work placement requests. Candidates seeking work-experience should Monash Health Human Resources on 9265 2785.
Pet Therapy volunteers are coordinated by registered pet therapy organisations such as Lort Smith and Delta Dogs. Applicants interested in becoming a pet therapy volunteer should contact these organisations directly.
Conditions of volunteering
Monash Health volunteers must be:
- At least 18 years of age
- Able to commit to 3-4 hours weekly for a period of 12 months.
- Prepared to participate in interview process, orientation, induction and training requirements
- Free of any criminal history of violence, drug offenses, sex offenses or crimes against children and be willing to undertake Police and Working with Children checks and consent to the release of these results to Monash Health
- Willing to sign a statutory declaration if entering residential aged care facilities
- Available to be photographed by Security staff in order that a Monash Health Identification tag stating their name can be produced
- Willing to adhere to codes of conduct, privacy and confidentiality and infection control, together with all relevant Monash Health policies, including OH&S policy and emergency procedures
All volunteers are required to conduct themselves in a manner that is professional and in the best interests of patients and visitors. Volunteers must be committed to Monash Health values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence and have a willing and enthusiastic attitude.

Where can I volunteer?
The Monash Health volunteer program operates across six hospital sites (including the Monash Children’s Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital, Casey Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital and Kingston Centre) and Monash Health Community facilities.
What support is given to me as a volunteer?
All Monash Health volunteers are provided with formal induction, orientation, and training. Volunteers work under the supervision of a paid staff member/s when on a rostered shift and ongoing training and development opportunities are available. Monash Health Volunteer Coordinators are also available to provide ongoing support and assistance.

What does the application process involve?
Applicants will be required to attend an interview held at one of the Monash Health sites. Should your application be successful, you will be required to:
- Provide a police check clear of any criminal history of violence, drug offenses, sex offenses or crimes against children, apply for a WWC and where necessary, sign a statutory declaration
- Attend a local induction and orientation
- Complete all required mandatory training prior to commencement and as required on an annual basis
