Haematology oncology

Description of the services Myeloproliferative disorders, chronic leukaemia, myelodysplasia, anaemia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, hematinic deficiencies and all haematological problems excluding Lymphomas (see clinic 240C) and haemostasis/thrombosis (see clinic 744C)
This clinic DOES NOT provide services for Children under age16
GP Investigations to be performed

If you wish to discuss any other investigations prior to referring your patient please discuss with Assoc Prof Stephen Opat or Dr Hang Quach.

Please provide a copy of all baseline blood tests with referral, except if they were performed via Southern Health Pathology. All patients should have baseline testing with:

Full blood count, Biochemistry (including Liver and renal function) and:

Patients with anaemia for investigation:
Please perform and provide copies of a full blood count, reticulocyte count, Serum Vitamin B12, folate and iron studies.

For patients with documented iron deficiency, reports of any endoscopies would be useful.

Patients with neutropenia and thrombocytopenia:
Vitamin B12 and folate assays. Past blood tests which provide a picture of the tempo of the cytopenia would be helpful. A list of the patient’s current medications in the referral would be important.
