SHARE - Sustainability in Healthcare by Allocating Resources Effectively (current)
The SHARE project aims to establish a rigorous evidence-based process for the introduction of safe, effective and cost-effective technologies, as well as cessation or limitation of harmful, ineffective or inefficient procedures. The main components of the project are:
- establishing organisation-wide structures and processes for evidence-based decision-making
- piloting projects in evidence-based disinvestment
- improving decision-maker’s access to evidence
The Victorian Department of Health has committed funding for this project over a three year period. The aim is to replicate this project in other Victorian health services.
Southern Health hosted a national workshop on ‘Health Technology Disinvestment: tests, drugs and clinical practice' in Melbourne on 27 August 2009. The workshop report can be downloaded here (summary, part 1: report and part 2: appendices).
As part of the 'access to evidence' component of the project, an Evidence Dissemination Service has been developed and was made available to all Southern Health staff in October 2010.
