(AH) Paediatric Physiotherapy

Kanooka Physiotherapy provides private outpatient paediatric physiotherapy services for children of all ages (0-18). This service offers individualised one to one assessment and therapy as well as group sessions including hydrotherapy.

We offer physiotherapy services across a wide spectrum of areas. We strive to be a family centred service, identifying goals of the child and family and working to maximise functional potential, performance and independence. This service provides support across the following areas –

  • Neurological
  • Respiratory
  • Orthopaedics
  • Developmental

Neurological

We provide physiotherapy services for infants, children and adolescents with complex neurological impairments. This may include children with –

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Neuromuscular disorders

A comprehensive neurological assessment will help guide a structured treatment approach. Your child’s therapy may include a focus on gait retraining, stretching, strengthening, endurance, orthotic management or prescription of specialised equipment such as seating, standing frames or tricycles.

Orthopaedic

Orthopaedic physiotherapy refers to presentations including concerns with muscles, bones or joints. Orthopaedic presentations seen through our paediatric physiotherapy service may include children following –

  • Fractures
  • Sporting  injuries
  • Orthopaedic surgery

The focus of physiotherapy following these events focuses on return to previous level of function including, walking and high level tasks such as running and jumping through a combination of strengthening, stretching and balance retraining exercises.

Respiratory

Physiotherapy for presentations including acute & chronic respiratory conditions and chronic productive cough focuses on strategies for airway clearance. Physiotherapy provides children and families with appropriate education and equipment prescription to aide with airway clearance and maximise exercise tolerance and endurance.

Developmental

Physiotherapy can play an important role in assisting babies and infants who may be slow to develop milestones compared to that expected for their age. Examples of milestones include, rolling, sitting, crawling or walking. Physiotherapy can help to promote your baby’s normal development providing opportunities to consolidate skills.

Physiotherapy intervention is also provided for babies and toddlers presenting with developmental orthopaedic concerns including –

  • Plagiocephaly & Torticollis (flat head or tight neck muscles)
  • Clubfeet
  • Postural variations including toe walking, intoeing, flat feet, bow legs, knock knees.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a fun and therapeutic environment to participate in physiotherapy. Hydrotherapy can help with tasks including strengthening, stretching, balance and endurance.

We offer group hydrotherapy services during the school term.
